I am currently a ringer with the Cestrian Handbell Ringers of Chester - something I have in common with our new Chairman. In the mid 1970's I began ringing with Ted and his wife Irene in a team called Westminster Chimes - a Chester group run by Ann Ketchell, who owned a set of Whitechapel bells. The team continued to flourish until in 1985 Ann decided to disband it.. This left a group of keen ringers high and dry. Eventually we decided to buy our own set of Malmark bells and start again under another name. This is how Cestrian Handbell Ringers came into being. Last year I was persuaded by Derek Jackson, who was then Regional Chairman, to join the committee. Having served my apprenticeship for a year I have now 'been volunteered' to act as editor of 'Oyez' the region's magazine.
